Writing
Writing is inseparable from my practice. Research, observation, and storytelling are how I understand the places I paint
If These Walls Could Talk (forthcoming)
My current book in progress is narrated by an 1890s Jersey City house. A witness to the city’s history across generation. Part architectural history, part urban narrative, it traces what a building absorbs and what gets lost when no one thought to ask.
Nat’s Sidewalk Stories on Substack is where I share the research, studio work, and observations that feed the larger practice: architecture, local history, community memory, and the stories behind the paintings. I also write articles inspired by my Nat Sidewalk Stories podcast conversations. Paid subscribers get exclusive access to chapters from If These Walls Could Talk as the book takes shape.
Artful Adventures in Mixed Media (North Light Books , 2017) is a book of techniques and approaches drawn from urban observation: painting, layering, and collage rooted in place and experience.
